Did You Know?

In 1891, James Naismith, a physical education director at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Mass., was given the task to create a indoor winter game.  By hanging peach baskets to the bottom of a second level running track and tacking up 13 rules to the wall, the game of basketball was invented.

On January 15, 1892, James Naismith published the first official rules of basketball.  Basketball became an Olympic sports in 1936, and is the second most popular sport in the world.
